Domestic outsourcing industry expand during crisis

December 8, 2008

As Polish companies fret about the deepening economic gloom, one sector is poised for rapid growth

The wave of cost-cuts caused by the crisis is fuelling demand for business process outsourcing (BPO), and Poland, with its skilled and relatively cheap workforce, is one of the most popular destinations. There are already 300 service centers with a headcount of over 43,000, providing financial, human resources, accounting and other services for the likes of Nike and Philips.

The existing centers alone might expand their workforce to 75,000 by 2010 and others might mushroom, but not before some key regulations are eased, warn experts. Residence and work-permit rules should be amended, labor code made more flexible and bureaucrats become more business-friendly.
