TCS, Infosys, Wipro win a slice of BP outsourcing deal

September 12, 2009

Industry sources put TCS’ share of the deal at $350-400 million and Infosys’ at $200 million.

IBM and Accenture will manage and run the oil giant’s enterprise applications.

Bangalore, Aug. 26 In one of the largest deals of recent times, the top-three Indian vendors TCS, Infosys and Wipro along with global giants IBM Corp and Accenture have bagged a slice of the $1.5-billion, five-year IT outsourcing contract from British Petroleum Plc, one of the world’s largest integrated oil and gas companies.

“With the new contract, we have brought down our vendor base to five from 42 worldwide,” said Mr David Nicholas, spokesperson for BP in London.

“BP expects to save about $500 million by outsourcing to these vendors,” Mr Nicholas told Business Line.

Over the past 12 months, BP has been consolidating its IT vendors with goals to simplify its processes and improve service quality. One of its earlier vendors Mahindra Satyam has been left out.

Though Mr Nicholas declined to comment on the deal size for the vendors, industry sources said the global players would have got a higher share compared to the Indian players.

IBM and Accenture will manage and run the oil giant’s enterprise applications, while the Indian vendors will provide application development and application maintenance (ADAM) services.
